Onliversity is an AI-powered learning platform where students learn through live video AI tutors, generate personalized lessons and learning paths, and earn verifiable certificates, while educators build courses and track revenue.
We were brought in to build Onliversity from zero: brand identity, design system, full-stack backend, and every AI integration. The founding idea was to make AI a core part of learning, not an add-on. That meant every lesson — whether in a course, a certification track, or a personal AI session — needed a live Tavus video AI tutor briefed with the exact lesson content, quizzes and flashcards generated on demand via OpenRouter, and personalized learning paths created by AI based on each student's goals, knowledge level, and timeline. The platform serves two audiences simultaneously: learners who discover and complete courses, and educators who build courses and track revenue.
Weaving AI into every learning surface meant coordinating multiple providers simultaneously: Tavus for video AI tutoring, ElevenLabs for voice-only interactions, and OpenRouter (Nvidia Nemotron for lessons, Qwen3 VL 30B for full learning path generation) for content generation. Each AI tutor session needed to be briefed with the exact lesson content at call time, with a custom greeting and context-aware system prompt built per lesson. The backend required architecting 61 Supabase Edge Functions covering courses, certifications, AI-generated personal lessons, personalized learning paths, and a credit-based billing model with three credit types — Avatar Minutes, Voice Minutes, and AI Credits — while keeping all of that invisible to the end user.
Onliversity launched production-ready with a Tavus video AI tutor active on every lesson surface, ElevenLabs voice AI, OpenRouter-generated quizzes and flashcards, AI-generated personal learning paths with a study calendar, verifiable PDF certificates, educator dashboards with revenue analytics, a course marketplace with platform commission, and a three-tier subscription model (Basic free, Learner Plus at $19/mo, Learner Pro at $30/mo) with credit-based AI consumption — built and shipped end-to-end.
